About Lawyer

Jennifer Varzari is a Senior Litigation Counsel at the Calgary, Alberta office.  She joined Aviva Trial Lawyers in 2016. Prior to this she was a Senior Associate at Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP in Calgary, Alberta and practiced in the area of commercial litigation, arbitration, and mediation with a focus on energy, securities, and general commercial disputes. Her area of practice at Aviva Trial Lawyers is insurance defence with an interest in complex commercial property damage claims.  Jennifer has appeared before the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench, the Alberta Court of Appeal, and the Alberta Securities Commission, and recently ran a three month trial in a complex commercial action where her team of lawyers successfully represented Canadian Natural Resources Limited in a multi-million dollar breach of contract, negligence, and product liability claim against a number of parties related to a failed bitumen pipeline (see Canadian Natural Resources Limited v. ShawCor Ltd., 2013 ABQB 230; Canadian Natural Resources Limited v. ShawCor Ltd., 2014 ABCA 289; Canadian Natural Resources Limited v. ShawCor Ltd., 2016 ABCA 21).

Jennifer has taught and tutored courses at both the University of Calgary and Lethbridge College. Her current and past community involvement includes: mentor for the Canadian Bar Association, member of the Steering Committee for Women for Men's Health (a charitable organization affiliated with the Prostate Cancer Centre), guest judge for University of Calgary Competitive Mooting Teams (Corporate Securities Moot & Gale Cup Criminal Law Moot), guest judge for Access to Justice Law Day, volunteer for Habitat for Humanity, volunteer for Feed the Hungry Program, and volunteer for the former AIDS Calgary Awareness Association (school educator & pro bono law student).

Personal Interests

Jennifer is a mom to two young boys and a feisty mini schnauzer. She is passionate about 90s hip hop music and physical fitness and recently co-founded a group fitness company called kin+fit. She spends her free time teaching fitness classes and enjoying outdoor activities like snow and water skiing, golfing, and biking with her kids and husband. She also shakes a mean martini.
